Poster presentation

Poster presentation - by IMPROVE Research Assistant, Riddhi Daryanani

Earlier in September I had the amazing opportunity to present a research poster at the European Health Psychology Society Conference 2024 in Cascais, Portugal. The poster presented a summary of the methods and results of my master’s dissertation completed as part of the process evaluation of the IMPROVE trial. The process evaluation of the trial involves a range of activities we are working on to study the setting up and delivery of the trial, particularly in the PR services that have PR-buddies. One of these activities is the interviews with the PR-staff implementing the PR-buddy service in their sites. The poster detailed the results from interviews with the PR-staff from the pilot sites on the trial.

Some interesting results from the interviews were that the clinicians strongly believed in the shared connection between the PR-buddy and the patient and its benefits for the patient. They were also quite happy with the training they received to set up and run the service. These results positively support the use of the train-the-trainer model in the recruitment, training and support of PR buddies.

The poster received a lot of interest from conference attendees, especially regarding the use of lay health workers (referred to as PR-buddies in the IMPROVE trial). Quite a few people took pictures of the poster, which I personally found rewarding. Overall, it was a great experience to attend my first international conference to learn more about process evaluations in other trials and the cutting-edge research happening in the field. The Portuguese tarts were great too!

Another poster was presented in September at the European Respiratory Society Congress 2024 in Vienna, Austria by one of the trial’s co-applicants, Arietta Spinou. This poster presented some details about the design of the PR-buddy training along with results from the PR-staff interviews from the pilot sites. We are glad to be spreading the word about the trial at these conferences and look forward to future opportunities to do so once we have more results to report.
